Sea Bream Blackspot or Pagellus bogaraveo


Pagellus bogaraveo /Sea Bream Blackspot also known as red seabream is a species of finned fish that lives in the high seas, Pagellus bogaraveo fish is a fish in the Sparadae family. This fish is located in the Atlantic Ocean east of Norway and Mauritania, including the Macaronisia and Mediterranean regions to the west.


Body shape :

The blackspot seabream is a fish with a deeply rounded muzzle and large eyes. It has small sharp teeth and larger, flat teeth on the sides of the jaw. It has a long dorsal fin that has 12 spines anteriorly and 12–13 forked rays posteriorly. The shorter anal fin has 3 spines and 12–13 forked fingers. The pectoral fins are relatively long and their tips are pointed. The hindquarters and upper wings are reddish and the underside of the body is silvery with a pinkish tinge.

 

Habitat and biology

Blackspot seabream occurs in coastal waters on various types of substrates, rocks, sand and mud. It ranges up to 400 meters (1,300 ft) in the Mediterranean but drops to 700 meters (2,300 ft) in the Atlantic. Juveniles are found near the coast while adults are found on continental slopes, especially in areas with muddy substrates.
